Catfish Season 3 spoilers
Season 3 of the hit MTV series "Catfish" gets pretty insane. Find out why this season has been dubbed the darkest yet. MTV

There’s a few trivial things in life that totally grind out gears: Monday’s, delayed trains, botched coffee orders and most of all ... getting duped on the Internet. OK, so maybe the last one doesn’t happen as much as a messed up Starbucks order, but still -- even the thought of it sends chills up our spine. And goose bumps are exactly what fans should expect when Season 3 of the hit MTV reality show “Catfish” makes its eerie return to the small screen.

"It’s not just the romantic catfish anymore," Nev Schulman told Buzzfeed during an interview regarding the new season of his hit show, which is set to premiere on May 7 at 10 p.m. EDT. "It’s really about the many different ways people can, when they put their minds to it, manipulate and take advantage of other people in the real world using the Internet.”

For those who don’t know, “Catfish” is a reality docu-series based on the 2010 same-named film that starred Nev. Long story short, Nev was tricked into forming a romantic relationship with an alleged young woman on Facebook. He eventually finds out that the girl he fell in love with was actually a completely different person who stole an identity and concocted a crazy story in order to hook Nev, who thus got “Catfished.”

Nev used his experience getting cyber-fooled to help others in similar situations. We witnessed both tear-jerking moments as well as happy endings in Season 1 and 2. But according to Nev and his gang of justice-seeking buddies, that’s all about to change when the Season 3 debuts its “darkest season yet.”

“These aren’t all romantic stories,” he said. “In some of these instances, people have catfished an entire town. There’s also a lot more cyberbullying this season as well, and people who are using catfish profiles for a lot of different motives, not just to seduce people and fall in love with people, but also to use them and to turn people against each other.”
