Chelsea trudged to a 3-1 win over Norwich City at Stamford Bridge, although the Canaries troubled them far more than what the score-line suggests.

Chelsea started the stronger side as Jose Boisingwa blasted in from 25 yards out within just six minutes. However, they couldn't capitalize on their early momentum and as the game progressed, Norwich got in behind the Chelsea defence on a couple of occasions and threatened Hilario. The Canaries ended the first half on top.

The second half started much like the first, with Chelsea threatening before gradually giving way to Norwich. And in a period of domination by the visitors, an error from Hilario resulted in an equalizer. The keeper raced off his line in an attempt to catch a long ball but failed to communicate with Ivanovic. He only managed to punch it straight to Holt who floated it into an empty goal.

At the other end, Didier Drogba had to be stretchered off, wearing what breathing aid, as he was knocked unconscious after a mid-air collision with Norwich keeper John Ruddy, while attempting to reach a cross.

With eight minutes remaining though, Chelsea won a penalty after Ramires was brought down on the break. Frank Lampard duly converted, blasting it down the middle past substitute keeper Declan Rudd after Ruddy saw red for the tackle on Ramires.

Substitute and debutant Juan Mata added some glamour to the score-line, pouncing on a mistake to score on his debut.
