Chester Bennington's family wants the Linkin Park frontman's funeral to be a private ceremony that would include only his close friends and relatives, TMZ reported Wednesday. The 41-year-old ended his life July 20 by hanging himself at his Palos Verdes Estates house.

Bennington's family wants to hold a private memorial for the star and have not yet figured out a way his fans can pay their respects, sources told TMZ. The sources also denied reports that the family was planning to make Bennington's final resting place next to Chris Cornell's at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

The singer's untimely death, which came just weeks after he purchased the $2.5 million family home where he died, raised doubts over the circumstances leading up to his suicide. Conspiracy theorists hinted at foul play in Bennington's death, while many drew parallels to Cornell's suicide. However, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office Monday determined Bennington’s cause of death and ruled it was suicide by hanging.

Linkin Park band members and several other celebrities expressed their shock over Bennington's death. Most recently, Filter frontman Richard Patrick told ABC News Radio that he last saw Bennington at Cornell’s funeral.

“I was absolutely shocked that Chester committed suicide. I was shocked. I mean, the reality is that he seemed to have everything going on. The last time I saw him was at Chris Cornell’s funeral. And he saw me and came running over and we hugged.. and we didn’t really have much to say to each other than, like ‘Are you OK?’ ‘Yeah, I’m OK. Are you OK?’ ‘Yeah, I’m OK.’ He sang ‘Hallelujah’ and it was like, pitch-perfect and totally clear and, you know, he did a really great job. I couldn’t have done that. That’s one of the things about Chester I liked, he was just like fearless,” Patrick said.

Conspiracy theorists claim Bennington's and Cornell's causes of death were murder. Fans said on Twitter that it was too much of a coincidence that Bennington died two months after his friend killed himself in the same manner.

Bennington is survived by his six children and his wife, Talinda. She has not yet responded to his death publicly but was caught in a controversy after her Twitter account was hacked hours after Bennington's death. The hacked Twitter account sent out several tweets saying Talinda provoked Bennington to kill himself.
