“Chicago Med” Season 3 will tackle anorexia in this week’s episode. But the eating disorder wouldn’t be the only problem that the doctors at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center will have to deal with. A promotional clip for the all-new installment also teases a dangerous superbug that could spread in the entire city.

According to the synopsis for “Chicago Med” Season 3, episode 8, titled “Lemons and Lemonade,” Ethan (Brian Tee) will struggle while extending his professional help to a woman who has anorexia. And it appears Ethan is going to resort to ask for assistance from Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt), who is attending to the patient in the promo clip for the NBC medical drama.

In a sneak peek at episode 8, Dr. Charles is seen approaching an anorexic woman named Alison. The patient who appears to be zoning out at the start of the clip then begins to notice that she’s in the hospital and a bag of dextrose is connected to her hand intravenously. As Alison motions to remove the IV solution, Dr. Charles calms her down.

When Alison asks if she’s receiving dextrose instead of a saline solution, Dr. Charles explains that her body needs the former because her blood sugar is only 44. The distressed patient then interrupts Dr. Charles by saying that she’s well aware that hypoglycemia comes with her condition.

When Alison starts mumbling her computation for the things she needs to do to get rid of the extra calories in her system, Dr. Charles sarcastically asks, “So is your math working out? Are you gonna be able to burn off those extra calories?” Alison then responds saying, “I don’t need to be here. Check my levels.” Nonetheless, Dr. Charles is unfazed by the patient’s claims. He even questions Alison about the “go-to trick” that anorexic people use these days at the end of the clip.

Meanwhile, a superbug is threatening to spread not only at the Emergency Department, but also across the city. Another preview of “Chicago Med” Season 3, episode 8 shows Natalie (Torrey DeVitto) and April (Yaya DaCosta) handling a patient who is not getting better despite the medication administered to relieve the symptoms. The trailer then intensifies when April asks Natalie if the case they are handling could be due to a superbug.

Elsewhere, fans will see the return of Rachel Dipillo’s Sarah Reese to the hospital in the all-new episode. Following her two-week suspension for attacking a patient with pepper spray, Sarah will immediately be put to the test by Dr. Charles. Could this mean that she’ll also be dealing with the anorexic patient who is in denial of her condition? The answer will unfold on this week’s installment.

“Chicago Med” Season 3, episode 8 airs Jan. 23 at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
