China Unicom Ltd. announced Monday that the company increased new users by 1.5 million in April, bringing the total users up to 168.5 million by the end of last month. In March the new users increased by 1.63 million.

The company's global mobile communications system (GSM) network users increased by 1.21 million in April, with the total GSM network users to reach 125.4 million by the end of April. In March GSM subscribers added by 1.32 million.

In April, the company's Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) network subscribers increased by 289,000, bringing the total number of users to 43.1 million. In March the CDMA subscribers added by 301,000.

By users, the company is the smaller of China's two mobile communications operators -- China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd. is the largest.
