Chloe Grace Moretz and Brooklyn Beckham just got back together, but the actress also had to endure being away from her boyfriend for an entire year.

In 2016, Moretz and Beckham decided to end their relationship. During that time, the 20-year-old actress said that she wanted to hide because their split became very public.

“I went through a hard year and I’m not going to hide that. I had to deal with this new and level of fame while I was growing up, I was getting out of a relationship and all of it was very public. I wanted to hide,” she told The Daily Telegraph magazine Stellar.

Following their split, Moretz turned to her family for support. They reminded her that getting away wasn’t the solution. Instead, she had to deal with the breakup just like how most people her age would. “Things started to change when I realized that I had the power to change them,” she said.

Meanwhile, other than her relationship with Beckham, the former child star also talked about being honest in an industry that encourages her to keep things to herself.

“I’m outspoken and I’m not afraid to speak my mind, even if it’s controversial. It feels like I’m not doing what’s right in the world if I don’t educate myself. If it’s important, I’ll speak about it. I don’t think about whether that hurts my career or not,” she said.

Moretz also said that she thinks a lot of young people are drawn to her because of her honesty. “Young women, in particular, are able to see that it’s not an act and it’s not a show. I just have a lot of thoughts and ideas that I decide to really push out,” she said.

Growing up, Moretz was lucky to have role models in the industry that inspired her to become the woman that she is today. She credited Meryl Streep and Julianne Moore as her biggest inspirations. Like the two A-list celebrities, Moretz wants to have longevity in her career so she chooses her projects carefully.
