The film adaptation of E.L. James' erotic novel "Fifty Shades of Grey" has spawned endless buzz over who will ultimately play the lead role of S & M-obsessed billionaire Christian Grey.

When James admitted that her novel is loosely based on the "Twilight Saga," fans went crazy hoping their beloved Edward Cullen, played by British actor Robert Pattinson, would also play the charming Christian Grey.

It only seems natural, after all.

Even though many have fantasized about the vampire landing the role of the domineering billionaire, Pattinson has remained relatively quiet on the matter.

Luckily for fans, he did sit down with MTV on Wednesday to talk about the role, and even admitted to reading some of the book, widely branded as “mommy porn.”

"I've read a bit of the Fifty Shades of Grey one. Before it was Fifty Shades ... [it was] Masters of the Universe!" Pattinson said to MTV.

But Pattinson isn’t the only actor “Fifty Shades” fans have in mind. Many other names have been dropped into the prospect pool as Christian Grey candidates, including "Gangster Squad's" Ryan Gosling, "White Collar's" Matt Bomer, "Vampire Diaries'" Ian Somerhalder, “True Blood’s” Alexander Skarsgard, and Henry Cavill of "Man of Steel," among others.

Pattinson’s final "Twilight" movie is being released next week, and according to the Internet Movie Data Base, the actor is pretty booked up.

The website says he’s been cast in three movies due out in 2013: "Mission: Blacklist" (pre-production) where he plays Eric Maddox, "Queen of the Desert" (pre-production) where he plays Col. T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) and "The Rover" (pre-production) where he plays Reynolds

He’s also scheduled to appear in "Hold on to Me," but the release date has not been determined yet.

If he were going to be in the “Fifty Shades” movie, it could only be possible if it started filming sometime in 2014.
