‘Christmas Encore’ Hallmark Movies, Mysteries Premiere: Meet The Cast, Watch Trailer

Maggie Lawson is having quite the week. First, she returned to the TV character she’d played for over 100 episodes from 2006 to 2014, Juliet on USA’s “Psych.” No, the series did not have a full-fledged revival a la “Will & Grace,” but it did premiere a new TV movie, “Psych: The Movie,” which picked up three years after the show’s finale.

Now, the actress is starring in a new Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Christmas movie, “Christmas Encore,” with Brennan Elliott, as part of the network’s Most Wonderful Movies of Christmas event.

The flick premieres Saturday night at 9 p.m. EST, and will be Lawson’s first one on Hallmark Movies, though she has been in one movie on the sister network, Hallmark Channel, earlier this year called “My Favorite Wedding” with Paul Greene.

Her co-star, on the other hand, Elliott, has been in many movies on both networks, beginning with “The Nanny Express” in 2008 on Hallmark Channel, with some “Flower Shop Mystery” films on Hallmark Movies thrown in there and then, most recently, “All of My Heart: Inn Love” with Lacey Chabert.

So, what is this new Christmas movie all about?

“Following years of bit parts and near-misses, aspiring New York actress Charlotte Lacy (Lawson), is about to throw in the towel and move to Chicago to take a real job when she lands the lead in a new production of ‘A Christmas Carol,’” the synopsis reveals.

She ends up nailing the role and finding an unexpected romance with the show’s director, TV star Julian Walker (Elliott), along the way. The whole experience gives her a “renewed passion for her craft and the city."

Alas, things apparently are going a bit too well because a wrench is thrown in her Christmas plans. The historic theater where the show is being put on ends up losing its lease and the show is set to fold before it even opens, leaving Charlotte and her co-stars in search of a Christmas miracle.

Will Charlotte be able to save the theater, her career and her newfound romance?

“Christmas Encore” premieres on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries on Dec. 9 at 9 p.m. EST.
