Chrysler LLC, which filed for bankruptcy protection yesterday, pursued an alliance with Nissan Motor Co. in July of last year before reaching out eventual partner Fiat SpA, according to a report.

Chrysler also pursued possible partnerships with General Motors Corp and product agreements with several Asia and European carmakers, Chrysler President Tom LaSorda told lawyers on Thursday, according to Bloomberg.

The talks for a “wide-ranging” alliance broke down “due to the inability of Nissan’s finance company to provide the needed support,” LaSorda said in a deposition, the report states.

Chrysler also tried to reach deals with Hyndai Motor Co., Toyota Motor Corp., Volkswagen AG, Tata Motors Ltd, Mitsubishi Corp., Honda Motor Co, and Chery Automobile Co, the report states.
