For Colin Kaepernick, the months leading up to the 2014 NFL season were supposed to be about signing a long-term deal with the storied San Francisco 49ers.

Instead, recent reports indicate the young San Francisco quarterback is under investigation by Miami police over an alleged incident with a woman in a hotel last week.

While no charges have been filed against Kaepernick, or the two other NFL players allegedly involved, the investigation is centering on a possible sexual assault.

As first reported by TMZ on Thursday, the accuser claims Kaepernick and 49ers receiver Quinton Patton were in attendance at Seattle Seahawks receiver Ricardo Lockette’s room at the Viceroy Hotel on April 1.

According to the police report, the woman says she arrived at the scene around 9 p.m., and made drinks for the three players, including some shots. The players insisted that before the woman could take a shot, she had to “hit the bong,” which held marijuana.

Later, the woman reportedly says she felt lightheaded and lay down in a bedroom. Kaepernick then came into the bedroom and started to kiss and undress the woman. However, she has said the two did not have sex, though she and Kaepernick have had a sexual relationship in the past.

The woman then said she woke up in a hospital bed and didn’t know how she arrived there.

Miami’s Special Victim’s Office is now handling the case since it would fit under the purview of a sex crime.

The 49ers told USA Today they are also investigating the incident.

Kaepernick denied the TMZ report on Twitter on Friday.

A second-round draft pick of the 49ers in 2011, Kaepernick exploded onto the NFL scene in 2012 and has taken San Francisco to two straight NFC title games and one Super Bowl appearance.

Kaepernick has reportedly been seeking a new contract along the likes of some of the more successful quarterbacks in the NFL like Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Tom Brady. Kaepernick will be an unrestricted free agent following the 2014 season. He's scheduled to earn roughly $1.5 million next season.
