The pilot flying Continental Flight 61 en route from Brussels, Belgium, to Newark, N.J. died during the trip.

The pilot, 61, whose name was not immediately released is reported to have died from “natural causes” Continental said in a statement.

The plane, carrying 247 passengers, landed at Newark Liberty International Airport at 11:49 a.m. local time after the two co-pilots took over.

The pilot was based in Newark and had worked for Continental for 21 years, the airline said.
