The S&P 500 and Nasdaq turned positive on Tuesday after initially falling, helped by gains in technology shares as Intel Corp gained after results from fellow chip maker Texas Instruments Inc .

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> dropped 12.75 points, or 0.16 percent, to 7,828.98. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> gained 0.22 points, or 0.03 percent, to 832.61. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> rose 8.87 points, or 0.55 percent, to 1,617.08.
