“Dancing with the Stars” is thinking outside of the box with its casting for Season 19, venturing into the world of YouTube stars for its next confirmed celebrity dancer. ABC has announced that Bethany Mota, the 18-year old YouTube star, will join the cast of the 2014 season. Mota joins designer Betsey Johnson, “Bachelorette” Andi Dorfman and Olympian Lolo Jones as already confirmed additions for the new season, while others such as Sadie Robertson and Janel Parrish are rumored to be confirmed soon.

ABC has reportedly been searching for YouTube and online celebrities and athletes, such as “American Ninja Warrior” Kacy Catanzaro, to in order to pull in a younger demographic to the show, which has been slipping in the ratings in recent seasons. The show was specifically seeking a female YouTube personality with millions of followers, and Mota certainly fits the bill.

Mota, 18, is a YouTuber from California who gained fame through videos of fashion advice and showcasing her shopping haul every season. After gaining a large following she was able to turn her popularity into a clothing line deal with Aeropostale. Mota has more than 8 million followers between her two YouTube accounts. Mota is “Dancing with the Stars’” first true new media star.
