Rafe (Galen Gering) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso) argue over how she’s handling her new position on the Oct. 16, 2017 episode of “Days of Our Lives.” NBC

There seemed to be no tension or issues between them after she was named as the new police commissioner over him. However, their work situation and the choices Hope has made since winning her new role will begin to create problems with Rafe on the Monday, Oct. 16 episode of “Days of Our Lives.”

Hope (Kristian Alfonso) was officially named the new police commissioner on the NBC soap over her fiancé, Rafe (Galen Gering), after Ben (Robert Scott Wilson) broke out of Bayview and showed up in town to crash the double wedding and break the shocking news that Will (Chandler Massey) was still alive. Since then, she has devoted a lot of the police force’s time to getting to the bottom of Ben’s claims, and everything that has happened because of them.

After Ben was brought in for questioning, JJ (Casey Moss) snuck in and held his gun to Ben’s forehead, threatening to shoot him because he murdered Paige. The situation led to JJ’s suspension from the police force, though Hope has since reinstated him with a warning that she will be tougher on the members of her family who also serve, so if he has another incident, he will be fired. Besides that, she has also overseen Ben’s questioning and got him to admit that he didn’t know for sure that Will was alive, because he’d been told the news from Clyde (James Read). After Kate (Lauren Koslow) then went to see him, it came out that he’d learned Will was alive from Dr. Rolf (William Utay). Now, the hunt is on to find him, and possibly, Will.

However, Rafe may begin to take issue with some of the choices Hope is making in her position of power. He may believe that investing so much of the department’s time in the Will case is a waste because there are no guarantees that doing so will have a happy ending for his loved ones. He also may think Hope let JJ off too easily for what he did as well.

Of course, Rafe’s biggest issue could be with the fact that he’s now been partnered with Eli (Lamon Archey), someone he has been less than fond of ever since he took a shot at Raines (Aaron Spears) while the man was literally holding Gabi (Camila Banus) hostage. While Hope didn’t assign the partnership, she did nothing to stop it either, and now Rafe may be finding that she is expressing poor judgement over what is best for the department.

When he confronts her however with his concerns, it won’t be taken lightly. Hope will likely take offense to his criticisms, and may even insinuate that he is making them because he is jealous that she got the top job over him. As their conflict deepens, it could lead to some more tension in their relationship, and when new tension is coupled with their old ones over her reluctance to set a date and actually marry him, it could lead to some even more negative consequences for the pair.

“Days of Our Lives” airs weekdays on NBC.
