"Days of Our Lives"
Lucas (Bryan Dattilo) pours his heart out to Will (Chandler Massey) on the Sept. 18, 2017 episode of “Days of Our Lives.” NBC

He has been losing quite a bit recently as his drinking has continued to spiral out of control. But now, after his dead son appears to show up back in Salem alive, Lucas will find the person he needs as he vents about his frustrations over life and love on the Monday, Sept. 18 episode of “Days of Our Lives.”

After being dumped by “Adrienne”/Bonnie (Judi Evans), Lucas (Bryan Dattilo) fell off the wagon on the NBC soap. He hasn’t been able to hide his drinking very well from any of his loved ones, and it’s become no secret in town that he has gone too far. Most recently, he dealt with his mother, Kate (Lauren Koslow), firing him from his job, and Gabi (Camila Banus) and Sonny (Freddie Smith) banning him from seeing Arianna while he’s drinking. An emotional and still boozing Lucas then sat by himself in the chapel, as he lamented everything he had dealt with in the last couple of years, beginning with Will’s (Chandler Massey) murder, and now ending with his losing the woman he loved, his life’s work, and his granddaughter. However, he was stunned when he then heard someone behind him call him dad, and he turned around to find Will standing there, alive.

Now, Lucas will be stunned to see his son again, especially since there had been no question he was dead after being murdered by the Necktie Strangler, Ben Weston. Lucas will remember burying his son, but while inebriated, will no longer care, because he feels he’s being given a wonderful gift, one where his son is back in his life for good.

With that in mind, he will then begin to pour his heart out to his son, because he has been feeling immense amounts of pain, and has had no one who understood how he really feels. Instead of getting the love and support he feels he should be receiving, he has instead found everyone turning on him and only hurting him more, because they can’t support his drinking any longer.

Will may console and comfort his father, who truly hasn’t been the same since his death, but he will also try to caution him about continuing to drink as well, because it will continue to cause everyone else to keep pushing him away. If anyone is able to get through to Lucas, it might be Will, and it could finally be the encouragement Lucas needs to start getting sober.

However, it could also become obvious to Lucas later on, or someone else if they happen in and hear him talking to Will, that his beloved son isn’t there at all, and that he has imagined him back from the dead instead. If that does happen, it could lead to even more consequences for Lucas over his drinking, as he could find himself hospitalized after someone expresses concern about him—or he could realize for himself that Will isn’t there, and hurt himself while in his drunken state.

“Days of Our Lives” airs weekdays on NBC.
