A scene from Dead Space (Electronic Arts Visceral Games)

Electronic Arts' Visceral Games officially announced today the sequel to the action horror game, Dead Space 2, which will be available for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The sequel came as no surprise as it had already been leaked through EA statements and various job listings, including one for a Senior Online Level Designer.

Dead Space's mute protagonist Isaac Clarke will return in the sequel where he will fight against the Necromorphs in space, and the sequel promises new tools in the game's signature dismemberment gameplay.

The infection continues to spread throughout space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it. There are still loads of necromorphs that need killing said executive producer Steve Papoutsis in a statement.

In Dead Space 2, not everything is exactly as it seems. Expect plot twists that will surprise you and a huge cast of twisted, disgusting monsters that are sure to scare the daylights out of you, he added.

Along with Clarke's signature Plasma Cutter weapon, developers at Visceral Games say they will introduce some new tools for dismembering enemies.

The release date for Dead Space 2 has not been announced.
