According to Joplin, Missouri city spokeswoman Lynn Onstot the death toll from last Sunday's massive tornado has risen to 139.

There are yet many more who are unaccounted for: An original list of unaccounted for people that was 232 previously, was at 105 on Saturday.

At least 90 survivors on the initial list had been found alive.

The tornado is the deadliest single twister in the United States since 1947. It also injured more than 900 people.

Around 600 volunteers and 50 dog teams are continuing to search for bodies throughout the city.

President Barack Obama is scheduled to visit the devastated city on Sunday, following his return from a European trip.
