An officer responding to a domestic assault call in DeKalb County, Georgia, on Monday night shot an armed man and a dog, local media reports said. Police reportedly said that the officer shot the man after he refused to drop his weapon.

The man had been reportedly taken to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition. The incident, which took place at the Marquis Forest apartments on Pine Tree Circle in Decatur, is being investigated. Police reportedly arrived at the scene after they received calls that a woman had been stabbed. The officer reportedly shot and killed the dog after it charged at him.

The man, who was shot by the officer, reportedly came from inside the apartment and pulled out a pistol, pointing it at the officer. The officer reportedly fired at him after the man refused to put down his gun. The officer has been put on paid administrative leave until the investigation in the case is completed, WSB-TV, a local news network reported.

Police officials reportedly found an injured woman inside the apartment. She was also taken to a local hospital and was in stable condition.

A third person at the apartment was suspected of stabbing the woman. The man reportedly attempted to escape but was apprehended by police and was taken into custody. Authorities reportedly said that no officers were hurt in the incident.
