Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich have called off their engagement after a few months of sharing a whirlwind romance.

An insider told People that the couple has decided to break off their engagement after failing to make their relationship work. The source also noted that it was a tough decision for both of them, but they chose to go their separate ways to focus on their careers.

The insider also insisted that the “Sorry Not Sorry” hitmaker and “Young and Restless” star have a lot of respect and love for each other despite what happened.

“It was a tough decision, but Demi and Max have decided to go their separate ways to focus on their respective careers. They have respect and love for one another and will always cherish the time they spent together,” People quoted the source, as saying.

The news comes a week after an insider told E! News that Lovato’s loved ones were doubting Ehrich’s intentions.

“People close to Demi have expressed that they are worried and are hesitant about Max,” the insider said.

The singer and the actor made their first appearance together when Lovato suddenly emerged in Ehrich’s Instagram Live in March 2020. The actor was seen performing on the piano when the musician walked into the frame with a big smile on her face. In the video, Ehrich softly said, “I am live,” a couple of times and Lovato was seen covering her face with a blanket.

In May, they made an appearance in Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande’s “Stuck With U” music video. The video served as confirmation of their relationship.

After just 4 months of dating, Lovato and Ehrich announced their engagement on social media in July. The “I’m Ready” singer uploaded a couple of pictures on her official Instagram account and shared the exciting news with her followers.

“When I was a little girl, my birth dad always called me his ‘little partner‘ - something that might’ve sounded strange without his southern cowboy like accent. To me, it made perfect sense. And today that word makes perfect sense again but today I’m officially going to be someone else’s partner. I knew I loved you the moment I met you. love you more than a caption could express but I’m ecstatic to start a family and life with you. I love you forever my baby. My partner. Here’s to our future!!!!” Lovato wrote along with the photos.

Lovato and Ehrich had been living together through the coronavirus pandemic. The former Disney star, while making an appearance on "The Morning Mash Up," recently admitted that living in quarantine “accelerated” their relationships because they were able to spend a lot of time together.

“We were able to share this time together that we wouldn't have normally gotten to spend. And that accelerated our relationship on a level that you can't really explain to people, but quarantine either makes or breaks the deal. And it really made that. So I'm really blessed, really fortunate and continuing to count my blessings every day,” People quoted Lovato, as saying.
