Get well soon! Derek Hough was hospitalized after he suffered an injury following Monday night’s episode of “Dancing with the Stars.” The five-time champion was supposed to appear on the special 10th anniversary of “DWTS,” one of the reasons he agreed to return to the show for Season 20, but did not make it.

The ABC special was scheduled to tape Tuesday, which meant Hough didn’t have enough time to heal. Instead of reuniting with former “DWTS” partners like Maria Menounos and Amy Purdy, the dancer, 29, got some rest and relaxation.

"Long night in the ER with @derekhough nothing worse than seeing a fellow dancer get hurt especially your brother," fellow "DWTS" pro Mark Ballas tweeted. "But he had me @bcjean and @corkyballas there by his side. #fam." The image has since been deleted but lives on thanks to a screenshot posted by Entertainment Tonight.

The post showed Hough’s ankle in a brace and Ballas giving the thumbs-down as he sits behind a wheelchair. Ballas did not issue another update about his friend. Instead, he shared clips from the previous episode of “DWTS,” where he and partner Willow Shields danced the salsa.

"Just getting home from the hospital," Hough wrote on Instagram, in a post that was also promptly deleted. "Not the best of news. I'm in utter disbelief.”

Hough’s injury could mean bad news for his partner, gymnast Nastia Liukin. "Not sure if he can dance next Monday or not," a source told Us Weekly. If Hough is unable to perform, she might have to partner with someone else for the night -- something that's never happened in the history of the show.

The cause of Hough’s injury is unknown, but it could be that he’s wearing himself thin. The star has been dividing his time between Los Angeles and New York, where he performs in the "New York Spring Spectacular" at Radio City Music Hall half of the week. He admitted on one episode of “DWTS” that he’s gotten little sleep this season because of his grueling schedule.
