'Destiny 2' Season 19: Grand Overture Is Meta Now, And Here's Why
KEY POINTS
- Grand Overture's rocket barrage now deals more damage across the board
- The weapon deals massive burst damage against Champions and bosses
- Arc builds with Font of Might can maximize Grand Overture's DPS
Machine guns rarely take over the meta in "Destiny 2," but one particular exotic has recently started getting much more attention than initially expected.
The Grand Overture, "Season of the Risen's" unique Season Pass weapon, got buffed at the start of Season 19, and it's finally fulfilling that fantasy of demolishing tough targets with an overwhelming barrage of micro missiles.
For those who didn't know, Grand Overture is an Arc Heavy Machine Gun that slowly fires a steady stream of small rockets at enemies. Its performance was poor when it first launched, with many complaining that it was barely worth using over then-meta guns.
However, it got a massive 50% damage buff to its alternate firing mode in Season 19 — this change alone was enough to send the weapon to new heights.
With 20 missiles loaded into the chamber, Grand Overture can easily help Guardians pump out over seven digits of damage in a single DPS phase against most endgame bosses. This includes Persys, the final boss of the Spire of the Watcher dungeon that's known to be a big damage sponge.
YouTuber Aztecross was able to deal as much as 860K damage to the Vault of Glass Templar boss before it could teleport away. This was with no other buff apart from a Well of Radiance and a Divinity bubble.
This damage can be buffed even further with effects like Radiant and Weaken or mods like High-Energy Fire. For Season 19, Weakened Clear is a must-have for boss DPS.
To load its secondary fire mode, players need to hit normal shots against any enemy. This can be stacked up to 20. The slow fire rate means it's best to charge up the Grand Overture before triggering a damage phase, which is easier said than done.
Thankfully, normal Grand Overture shots deal tons of damage to most targets, and even half a stack of micro missiles is enough to shred through Champions in difficult Nightfalls.
It's likely that Grand Overture will still be strong after Season 19, and it may see some heavy action once the Witness and the Black Fleet arrive in "Lightfall."
