Don’t believe everything you hear, folks. That’s the message “Divergent” star Theo James sent to reporters on Thursday, finally speaking up about rumors he and girlfriend Ruth Kearney are engaged.

During a sit down with Entertainment Tonight, the Oxford, United Kingdom, native was asked about stories circulating about his relationship status. Rather than beat around the bush, James, 32, got straight to the point, denying that there was any truth to reports he and Kearney — an Irish Actress — have plans to walk down the aisle in the near future. The actor did not elaborate any further, though it seems there’s little else to be said.

“I was never engaged,” he told ET.

In addition to addressing rumors he and Kearney are headed for marriage, James was asked to discuss his involvement in the “Divergent” series. After three big-screen films and one major disappointment at the box office, showrunners have made the decision to try a made-for-TV movie for the fourth installment. The news came as a shock to fans and, it seems, the stars of the once popular franchise. James told ET, as he has said multiple times before in interviews with other outlets, that he won’t be a part of “Divergent: Ascendant.”

“It’s a shame not to finish the last movie, but I think the studio wanted to take it into a different area, and it’s evolving into something that I don’t think I’ll be a part of.”

James’ exit from the “Divergent” series grants him more time to focus on other projects, like his upcoming film “Underworld: Blood Wars.” He’s starring alongside Kate Beckinsale, playing a character named David. The film is a science-fiction thriller about Selene (Beckinsale) — a vampire death dealer looking to create peace between the Lycan clan and Vampire faction, who have been at odds for years. According to Cinemablend, the film also stars “Game of Thrones” alumni Charles Dance and Tobias Menzies, who played Tywin Lannister and Edmure Tully, respectively.

In the “Underworld” trailer details about James’ character are revealed. He is shown informing Selene of the Lycan’s ranks, sharing with her that they have “a new leader.” It is unclear what his role will be in the fight to bring about peace between the differing groups, but Beckinsale’s character and her troops are shown heading into battle shortly after.

“Underworld: Blood Wars” hits theaters on Jan. 6, 2017.
