Game developer Massive Entertainment has announced that “Tom Clancy’s The Division” will receive two free expansions for its second year of updates.

“We are looking to reengage the players in light of the first year celebration for ‘The Division’ by recommitting ourselves to the game in the upcoming 12 months,” creative director Julian Gerighty told Game Rant. “We will be delivering two separate expansion packs for the game free to everybody in the next 12 months.”

“The Division” celebrates its one year mark today, and Massive will be hosting a special livestream event to mark the occasion. Developers from the studio will also be providing fans with more details on what to expect for the games second year of DLCs.

Gerighty has also teased some details on the first expansion which he revealed will be available this summer. He says that the first expansion will have an events structure wherein players will be rewarded for participation, completion and competition within a playlist. He also hinted that players will be able to “craft their own unique stories.”

The creative director also says that the upcoming expansion will primarily be PvE focused at the beginning. It seems as though Massive wants to make sure that “The Division” maintains its replay value.

Although the expansions are PvE centric, Gerighty says that expanding PvP activities may still be on the horizon. Massive will most likely reveal more details on that during its livestream event and in the months to come.

In a separate interview with Forbes, Gerighty also teased that the upcoming expansion will be bringing a long-awaited feature to the game: the ability to change between gears quickly with preset loadouts.

He also teased that the one of the rewards that will be given to players will be a new type of cosmetic gear. Gerighty didn’t say exactly what it is, but it will be an entirely new vanity slot for characters.

As for the second expansion coming to “The Division” this year, that will most likely arrive later, possibly during fall or winter. Gerighty teased that the second expansion pack will include more story content. He described it as a “light narrative content,” and that Massive is working on expanding the playable areas of the game as well.
