Donald Trump has made racial slurs, caustic comments on fellow individuals, journalists and women during the 2016 presidential election campaign. However, the real estate mogul said he was glad he held himself back from talking about former president Bill Clinton’s "indiscretions." The reason? His respect for his Democratic rival's daughter Chelsea Clinton.

“I’m really happy I was able to hold back on the indiscretions in respect to Bill Clinton. Because I have a lot of respect for Chelsea Clinton,” Trump told CNN, after Monday night’s presidential debate with Hillary Clinton.

When asked what he would have said, the Republican nominee responded: “Maybe I’ll tell you at the next debate. We’ll see. But I'm very happy.”

The 70-year-old later on Fox News explained why he did not say what he wanted to about the ex-president.

“Her [Hillary’s] husband was in the room along with her daughter, who I think is a very nice young lady, and I didn’t want to say what I was going to say about what’s been going on in their life, so I decided not to say it,” Trump said. “I thought it would be very disrespectful to Chelsea and maybe to the family, but she said very bad things about me. Worse than what she said, she’s taking these phony ads, spending hundreds of millions of dollars on phony ads, and I think it’s a disgrace that she’s allowed [to do that].”

Chelsea sat alongside her father during the debate cheering for her mother.
