The Dow and S&P 500 turned negative in midday trading on Monday, with the energy sector leading losses on the S&P 500. The Nasdaq was lower as well.

Oil futures declined, pulling shares of major energy companies down as well.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was down 2.01 points, or 0.02 percent, at 12,808.53. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> dipped 1.58 points, or 0.12 percent, at 1,362.03. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> slipped 9.27 points, or 0.32 percent, at 2,864.27.
