Downton 507 3
There might be some tension between Lady Rose (Lily James, left), Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery, center) and Mabel Lane Fox (Catherine Steadman) in "Downton Abbey" Season 5, episode 7. Nick Briggs/Carnival Films 2014 for MASTERPIECE

“Downton Abbey” Season 5 is going to shake up the drama at the estate in episode 7. The family will be reeling from Edith’s (Laura Carmichael) disappearance in episode 6, but they also have a house full of guests to attend to, according to the synopsis. Charles Blake (Julian Ovenden), Tony Gillingham (Tom Cullen) and Mabel Lane Fox (Catherine Steadman) are all staying at the house — if they don’t get kicked out.

Edith will try to stay away from home, but it won’t work. She’ll be “found out,” according to the synopsis. Of course, she has to return to her family, but what about her daughter, Marigold? She’ll either have to reveal to her family that she had Michael Gregson’s baby, or she’ll have to send Marigold away again.

Mary’s (Michelle Dockery) situation won’t be quite as desperate. She “finally shakes a suitor,” the synopsis teases. So will Charles’ elaborate plan to pair off Mabel and Tony finally work? Or will Charles realize that he can’t come between Mary and Tony?

Meanwhile, Isobel (Penelope Wilton) and Lord Merton (Douglas Reith) will get closer. They “reveal their plans” to everyone, but Lady Violet (Maggie Smith) won’t be happy about their engagement. However, the dowager countess’ reason for being upset might surprise audiences. Isobel and Merton won’t be the only ones engaged by the end of the episode. Someone a bit younger also will be getting ready to say “I do.”

All of those engagement announcements will lead to major tension. “Robert throws another guest out of the house,” the synopsis teases. It seems Robert (Hugh Bonneville) can only handle so much arguing at one dinner table.
