A recently released video message from Michelle Duggar to her unborn daughter, Jubilee Shalom, is the newest addition in a string of public reactions to her miscarriage on Dec. 8. The Duggar family, which showcases their family life on TLC's 19 Kids and Counting, has publicly mourned the loss of their twentieth child that was expected in April 2012.
Following the miscarriage, the Duggars decided to name the unborn baby girl, Jubilee Shalom, and hold a memorial service for her. Pictures from the service were leaked and the family has now released a video message on their blog as well.
You were only here with us such a short time, Michelle says in the video message, It's an awesome thought to me that you fulfilled your life's purpose in such a short time. What a blessing to know that you are in the arms of Jesus and that it was his face that you saw first.
The miscarriage occurred at the beginning of December when doctors realized they could no longer detect a heartbeat. The miscarriage happened naturally in the second trimester of the pregnancy. Michelle Duggar was 19 weeks and 1 day into her pregnancy.
TLC's 19 Kids and Counting is already home to many children, few with more than a year between them: Joshua, 23 (who is married and has two children of his own); twins Jana and John-David, 21; Jill, 20; Jessa, 19; Jinger, 17; Joseph, 16; Josiah, 15; Joy-Anna, 14; twins Jedidiah and Jeremiah, 12; Jason, 11; James, 10; Justin, 8; Jackson, 7; Johanna, 6; Jennifer, 4; and Jordyn, 3, and Josie, 2, who was born prematurely.
The loss of Jubilee Shalom is not the first suffered by the Duggar family. Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar first had a miscarriage in the 1980s while Michelle was on birth control. The tragedy of losing the child convinced Michelle that birth control is ineffective and morally questionable. Since then she has believed that having children is a decision best left up to God.
