A day after the El Cajon shooting that left a California police officer seriously wounded, SWAT officers found the body of a young child in the wreckage of the house where the shooting took place. She had been shot in the head.

The police think the child is the 14-month-old daughter of Kevin Collier, 31, the suspected gunman, who was reportedly in the middle of a divorce. However, her body was too badly burned for the authorities to identify her immediately. The SWAT team is now searching for another body, because Collier tweeted after the shooting that he had killed his daughter and his mother-in-law.

A second body was apparently found, but the police believed it was that of the gunman, not another victim. The San Diego County Medical Examiner's office was attempting to identify the body.

The incident occurred at around 5 p.m. on Sunday. The gunman began shooting at two police officers, and one was hit in the neck. The injured officer, identified as Jared Slocum, 28, underwent surgery and was in stable condition as of early Monday afternoon. After the shooting, the gunman apparently set fire to the house. It is unknown whether he survived, but officials said they did not believe he had escaped a police cordon.

We don't believe he got out of the house, but we continue to search just to make sure, police Lt. Mark Coit told the San Diego Union-Tribune. El Cajon is about 15 miles northeast of San Diego.
