Elizabeth Smart testified today that she was raped daily by her captor when she was kidnapped seven years ago and that she was threatened to be killed if she yelled or tried to escape.

Until now, Smart had never testified in court. She described her captor as evil, wicked, manipulative, stinky, slimy, selfish, not spiritual, not religious, not close to God.

Smart, now 21, said that after her abduction from her Salt Lake city home her captor took her to a mountain camp and performed a ceremony intended to marry the two and after that, he proceeded to rape her.

Smart was kidnapped for nine months. At the time she was abducted she was 14 years old and taken from her bedroom at knife point by a man who had worked before in the family's house.

Today she testified in the U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City as part of a competency proceeding for Brian David Mitchell, the man charged in her kidnapping in 2002.

The testimony is relevant to the mental competency of Mitchell, who twice has been found incompetent for trial.
