Brian David Mitchell, a religious fanatic charged with kidnapping, raping and pushing the then 14-year-old victim Elizabeth Smart into a polygamous relationship, was sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday.

Nine years after Elizabeth Smart was abducted at knife-point from her bedroom in Salt Lake City, Utah when she was 14, she confront the perpetrator of the atrocious crime on Wednesday. Smart told Mitchell : You took away nine months of my life that can never be returned, but in this life or next, you will have to be held responsible for those actions, and I hope you are ready for when that time comes.

LA Times reported that U.S. District Judge Dale Kimball handed down two life sentences for Mitchell, 57.

Elizabeth Smart, 23, described her kidnapper as a brutal, delusional religious zealot who was obsessed with sex. ABC News reported in 2010 that Smart painted Mitchell as a hypocrite who would force her into sex.

She also revealed that she was forced to consume alcohol and marijuana which she totally detested.

Mitchell, the maniac used to call himself the Davidic King and had also written a book called The Book of Immanuel David Isaiah.

Mitchell's estranged wife, Wanda Barzee, was sentenced in May 2010 to a 15-year prison term on kidnapping charges. ABC News reported that Mitchell would often plead Smart for sex which invoked envy in Wanda Barzee because of the attention Smart was getting.

Smart described her nine-month ordeal as nine months of hell. After her abduction from her upscale house in Salt Lake City, Mitchell took her to a hill campsite where she was forced to wear a robe and enter into a polygamous marriage with him. The impromptu marriage was solemnized by invoking some sentences from the Mormon marriage ceremony, called a sealing. Later she was subjected to rape.

She also confessed that she was tied to tree by a metal cable for almost six months.

Reuters reported that Mitchell, 57, the perpetrator of the barbaric crime was convicted for kidnapping and unlawful transportation of a minor across state lines to engage in sexual activity.
