U.S. stocks rose at the open on Tuesday led by the energy sector as oil prices advanced, with investors awaiting testimony from U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke later in the morning.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 32.39 points, or 0.26 percent, to 12,258.73. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 4.87 points, or 0.37 percent, to 1,332.09. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> added 6.58 points, or 0.24 percent, to 2,788.85.
