The euro rose 1 percent against the dollar on Thursday as worries about the strength of the U.S. economy weighed on the greenback.

The euro rose 1 percent on the day to $1.2877 EUR=, its highest level since early May. The currency had slipped below $1.19 last month on worries about the debt burdens of several euro zone countries, and traders said a wave of short-covering has helped lift it nearly 10 big figures in recent weeks.
