The euro extended its gains against the dollar and the yen on Friday after data showed Germany's gross domestic product rose more than expected in the second quarter.

The euro last stood at $1.2896 EUR=, up 0.5 percent on the day and having climbed from about $1.2870 just ahead of the data's release.

Against the yen, the euro was 0.8 percent higher on the day at 111.06 yen EURJPY=R, having climbed from around 110.70 yen after the German data. (Reporting by Masayuki Kitano; Editing by Joseph Radford)
