iOS 5.1 Jailbreak
The new Redsn0w version includes another feature that has been added to the new Redsn0w, which makes it possible to perform an untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.1.1 running on pre-A5 devices in A5 Non DFU Style.

The iPhone-Dev Team released a new version (v0.9.15b1) of the popular Redsn0w jailbreak tool last week, packing it up with a number of key features including those supporting restoring to older firmware, no longer being signed by Apple.

The new Redsn0w version also brings good news for A4-based device users as Cydia is now included in the iOS 6 tethered jailbreak, meaning there’s no SSH work anymore. In addition to all these, there is another feature that has been added to the new Redsn0w, which makes it possible to perform an untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.1.1 running on pre-A5 devices in A5 Non DFU Style.

According to iDownloadBlog, the method is similar to the one used for other jailbreak tool like Absinthe that also uses backup and restore rather than the usual DFU ramdisk method. “This is a great feature that speeds up the jailbreak process on Pre-A5 devices running iOS 5.1.1,” said the report.

Below are the steps, provided by Jeff Benjamin of iDownloadBlog, for going ahead with the jailbreak process. However, there are a few things to keep in mind before proceeding.

Assess the device’s current state before deciding whether to go for the backup and restore method or the typical DFU ramdisk method.

- In case the device has a lot of media, apps and games, the traditional DFU mode is preferable.

- If the device has minimal data on it or if it’s a new install, go with the backup and restore method.

- The device should be running on iOS 5.1.1.

Here are the steps:

Step 1: Download RedSn0w 0.9.15b2 (Mac / Windows) and open it.

Step 2: Connect the pre-A5 iOS device running iOS 5.1.1 to the computer and wait till RedSn0w recognizes the device.

Step 3: Now click jailbreak, and you should be prompted as to which mode you want to use.

Step 4: To select the backup and restore method click No and the jailbreak process will begin.

Step 5: After the process is complete, the iOS device will go into restore mode, which restores the custom backup created in the earlier steps.

Step 6: After the restore process, you should receive a Restore Complete message on your iPhone’s screen, which will appear only briefly.

You should also see a pop-up message on RedSn0w saying that the jailbreak succeeded.

Step 7: Now, you can click OK on this message, and then click Quit to close RedSn0w.

Step 8: Next the device will show an Apple logo with a loading bar beneath that. Once this loading bar is filled, the Lock screen will be displayed. Don’t unlock it and wait a few more seconds.

The screen will appear black once again for a moment. After the Lock screen comes back, you can unlock the device and the Cydia icon should be on the second Home screen page.
