Ricardo Montalban, the Mexican-born actor who became a star in splashy MGM musicals and best known as Mr. Roarke in TV's Fantasy Island, has died, he was 88.

Montalban died at 6:30am Wednesday at his Los Angeles home of complications related to old age, said his son-in-law, Gilbert Smith.

Emmy award winner, Montalban, was born in Mexico City in 1920 and was a star in Mexican movies before MGM brought him to Hollywood in 1946 to play opposite Esther Williams in movies like Fiesta, Neptune's Daughter and On an Island with You.

Montalban performed in 61 movies and TV shows, including Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and most recently provided voice for The Ant Bully and, on television, the voice for a Family Guy episode. He was also a pop culture icon in the 1970s.
