Fatalities in South African Platinum Mines Increasing
South Africa's National Union of Mineworkers said Wednesday a miner was found dead underground in a Rustenburg mine owned by Anglo American Platinum, the world's largest platinum producer.
A cause of death hasn't been determined for the worker who had been reported missing Tuesday.
This brings to over 93, the number of miners who lost their lives in 2011, the union said on its Web site.
In a separate statement Tuesday, the union said a miner working for Impala Platinum was killed when he was struck by a rock.
