In a heinous case of apparent revenge, Colorado man Merrick McKoy posted a seemingly touching photo of himself and his baby daughter on Facebook, then shot her moments later with a handgun, before turning the gun on himself. The photo shows McKoy making an expression of mock surprise as he holds 19-month-old Mia McKoy-Phanthavongsa.

Before McKoy shot himself, he confessed to his crime on Facebook, writing statuses, “Don’t judge me had no choice” and “I told u I can’t live without u lol u thought I was joking now me n Mia out this b—ch.”

The crime allegedly followed a domestic dispute with McKoy's estranged girlfriend, Kimphone "Kim" Phanthavongsa, 21, who had had a restraining order in place against McKoy from a previous domestic incident. But she awoke Monday to find him standing over her with a gun, enraged. She ran to a neighbor’s apartment, Westminister, Colo., police say, and proceeded to call 911. When authorities arrived, they found both McKoy and his daughter with gunshot wounds. The baby died of her injuries and the father survived and is in critical condition.

After learning her daughter had died, Kim was too emotional to be interviewed by police. Investigator Cheri Spottke calls the case “particularly heinous,” adding, “We’re trying to be very respectful of the fact that she tragically lost her child.”
