Official photos from the movie Hobbit have been released and by the look of them, the prequel to Lord of the Rings does justice to the masterpiece trilogy.

Peter Jackson directed Hobbit will be released in the December of 2012. The movie is based on a bestselling novel written by J.R.R. Tolkien. The director keeps posting photos, videos and updates on his Facebook page. The official blog site of the movie is also updating new information such as casting updates and announcements of title and release date.

Meanwhile, three new photos have been released and were posted by Entertainment Weekly (ew.com).

The photos released include Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins with several dwarfs in his hobbit house at Bag End, Ian McKellen playing the role of Gandalf puffing on his pipe and resting under a tree, and Freeman taking directions from Peter Jackson.

According to EW, Jackson said, ''There's no way you can pace yourself for shoots like these. When we were going through the schedule for The Hobbit, I felt a terrible drop in my stomach when I saw that we'd be shooting for 254 days. We're only 12 days short of The Lord of the Rings even though we're only doing two movies. When I saw that, I had to sort of pick myself up off the floor and carry on.''

Martin Freeman acts as Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit and the main protagonist of the movie. Freeman was rumored to be considered for the role of Bilbo for a long time. Other actors such as James McAvoy, Toby Maguire, David Tennant, and Daniel Radcliffe were also suggested for the role.

Ian McKellan is playing the role of Gandalf the Grey, an Istari wizard who lets Bilbo go and undertake the adventure of reclaiming the dwarfs' lost treasure in Erebor.
