(REUTERS) Stocks extended losses on Friday, with the Dow industrials and the S&P 500 falling into negative territory after Fitch threatened to cut the ratings of several Eurozone nations, reigniting worries about the region.

The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 37.39 points, or 0.32 percent, to 11,831.42. The S&P 500 Index edged up 0.43 point, or 0.04 percent, to 1,216.18. The Nasdaq Composite gained 9.04 points, or 0.36 percent, to 2,550.05.

Fitch warned it may downgrade the rating of six EU nations in the absence of a comprehensive solution to the region's debt crisis.
