Barry Allen (Grant Gustin, pictured) will get some help from Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears) taking on Zoom (Tony Todd) in "The Flash" Season 2. The CW

It seems like almost once a week this past summer "The Flash" was announcing it had a cast a new speedster for Season 2, from Jesse Quick (Violette Beane) to villain Zoom (Tony Todd) to Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) to Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears). However, Garrick is the first new meta-human hero fans can see in action thanks to the latest trailer for the CW series' new episodes.

Comic fans know Garrick as the original speedster and Flash. As a Midwestern chemistry student in college, Garrick was involved in an accident that resulted in him being covered with chemicals that transformed him into the first speedster, years before Barry (Grant Gustin) was ever born -- in the show's timeline anyway -- or Eobard Thawne (Tom Cavanaugh) came into the picture.

The new trailer, though, suggests the show might be giving the character a new back story. While the Garrick on "The Flash" might still have started speeding when Barry was still in diapers, it seems he is not from the Midwest, but from another world. In the teaser Garrick comes through a portal opened up in the Season 1 finale to warn Barry that Zoom and others like him will come through and threaten Central City. It appears that the two speedsters will work together to stop Zoom, but it would not be surprising if the two heroes formed a competitive rivalry as well.

Watch the trailer for "The Flash" Season 2 below:

Garrick joins a host of new characters coming to the show in Season 2, including Quick, Zoom, Wally West, Patty Spivot (Shantel VanSanten) and villain Atom Smasher (Adam Copeland). Plus, rumor has it that thanks to all the alternate timelines and other worlds in the show, fans have not seen the last of Dr. Harrison Wells (Cavanaugh).

Can Garrick and Barry stop Zoom? Fans will have to wait to find out. "The Flash" returns to the CW for Season 2 on Oct. 6.
