It seems like the Force is strong with developer Kabam, as the company announced that “Star Wars: Uprising” would be released this week for both iOS and Android. The game is a free-to-play action roleplaying game (RPG), with a story that takes place after “Return of the Jedi.”

“Uprising” joins the “Star Wars: Aftermath” novel as the second new story set after “Return of the Jedi.” The game’s storyline will be part of the new expanded universe that was made after Disney bought the franchise from George Lucas. It was stated that all previous stories were no longer canon, Game Informer reported.

Mobile players will be thrust into the Anoat sector of the galaxy where familiar locations like Hoth and Bespin are. Players will be able to explore these planets and take on new foes and see how the locations have changed after the passing of Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine.

Fans will be able to customize their own character and team up with other players as they try to take down a newly formed Empire. With the Emperor gone, it is clear that a void will have to be filled, and it will be interesting to see whom the game pits mobile players against in “Star Wars: Uprising.”

Those worried that the game might not feel like a “Star Wars” experience have nothing to fear, as Kabam hired some series veterans to work on the game, according to Venture Beat. The game’s director Daniel Erickson was the lead writer and creative director of “Star Wars: The Old Republic,” while Alex Freed, one of the writers for “Uprising”, has written “Star Wars” comics for Dark Horse.

It is not yet known how the mobile game will affect the upcoming “Force Awakens” film, but it should give fans a good time regardless of how it affects “Star Wars” continuity. The game will be released on Sept. 10 on the iTunes App Store and Google Play.

Another mobile game called “Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes” is also on its way to mobile devices. Unlike “Uprising,” however, the game is pure fan service as players can recruit characters from the films and battle famous “Star Wars” heroes or villains, depending on which side is chosen.
