Two Japanese nuclear workers have been hospitalized after getting exposed to high levels of radiation while working on the cooling system in one of the damaged reactors, according to reports.

The workers were trying to fix the cooling system at No.3 reactor at the Fukushima nuclear plant, BBC reported. Another worker has also been injured while working at the site, the report said.

The workers were injured when they came into contact with radiation-contaminated water. However, their radiation exposure was less than the maximum permitted for workers at nuclear sites.

Although they wore protective clothing, the contaminated water seeped in and their legs were exposed to radiation, a spokesman said.
