A new video released by the producers of HBO's “Game of Thrones” shows series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss discussing Petyr Baelish’s plan to become more powerful in Season 5, episode 6. Iain Glen’s acting and Daenerys Targaryen’s predicament in the episode are also discussed. [Spoiler alert]

“In a story filled with ambitious characters, it's hard to think of anyone more ambitious than Little Finger and more cunning in his pursuit to fulfilling his ambition,” Benioff said in the video. Episode 6 showed how the character was maneuvering to be named Warden of the North.

Weiss described the interaction between Cersei Lannister and Petyr Baelish as a “quintessentially [a] Little Fingerian moment,” where the viewers don’t realize what his motivations are until the end of the scene. Readers should note that when Cersei asked for Sansa Stark’s head, Little Finger said that he was there to serve.

The main goal of Petyr Baelish has always been to acquire more power. Benioff explained that the character is someone who started off with very little to his name and did not come with a noble family background. The only way the character can now get more power is to “play” the great Houses of Westeros “against each other.” The armies of Stannis and the Boltons, for instance, are preparing to face-off in “Game of Thrones” Season 5.

Another major character in the show, who had an emotional moment in episode 6, is Jorah Mormont. Weiss explained that the character has been living in exile for so long that he has “compartmentalized” his past and tries not to think about the painful memories. One of the most painful memories is his “estrangement” from his father.

Benioff said that one of his favorite scenes in the episode is how Jorah processed the news of his father’s death at the Night’s Watch. The producer pointed out that the character grew up in a “very military culture” and had learned to “keep his emotions close to the chest.” The producer added that the scene where Glen had to convey the pain of Jorah only with facial expressions and no words was all based on the actor’s skills and there was no writing involved.

There may be another wedding soon in “Game of Thrones” Season 5. Daenerys Targaryen has decided to wed a man from an ancient noble family in Meereen to keep the peace in the city. Weiss explained that the mother of dragons doesn’t like or trust Hizdahr zo Loraq, but she knows that she can’t have peace by “smashing heads alone” and the marriage could help bring some peace.
