Like winter, the Season 6 premiere of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” is coming, and it’s coming fast. With less than two weeks to go before the premiere, fans have just been treated to an update on a character who hasn’t been heard from for quite some time.

When one thinks of the fantasy world of Westeros, late-night TV comedian Conan O’Brien isn't the first to come to mind. But the host of TBS’ “Conan” has debuted two exclusive clips from the coming season in less than 10 days. The first showed Davos and the members of the Night’s Watch preparing for an attack from an unknown entity. The latest focuses on Samwell Tarly (John Bradley) and his girlfriend Gilly (Hannah Murray).

When last we left Sam and Gilly, the former had approached his good friend Jon Snow (Kit Harington) about an opportunity for him outside the confines of Castle Black. Having demonstrated for five seasons that, although he’s good in a pinch, he’s not the most formidable fighter in the Seven Kingdoms, Sam wants to seek a more academic calling. After he learned that the white walkers are descending from Hardhome with a vast army, he requested the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch send him to Oldtown to study at the Citadel and replace Aemon Targaryen as the Maester of the Watch. Snow agreed and sent him, Gilly and her baby son away. This ends up being a good thing as Sam probably wouldn’t have liked what happened next at Castle Black.

As TV Guide notes, Sam has been left out of the cadre of teasers, posters and chatter that’s been leading up to the show’s April 24 return — until now. Bradley appeared on Tuesday’s episode of “Conan” and brought with him the first clip showing Sam and Gilly in Season 6. As the actor noted, it’s also the first moment that the show will catch up with these characters.

In a season that promises to be pretty dark, and full of terrors, Sam’s reintroduction carried a little levity to it, showing him having an incredibly difficult time traveling on the ocean. In addition to not being able to fight, Sam is dealing with some real seasickness. Meanwhile, the unflappable Gilly is just excited to be seeing more of the world that she previously thought was closed off to her. Additionally, it’s revealed that her intelligence has increased tremendously since she’s started working with her new boyfriend. She’s even making jokes about the spelling of the word “see” versus “sea,” musing that she used to think the ocean was called that simply because it stretched as far as the eye could… you get it.
