U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said on Thursday he didn't know whether American efforts to get China to change its exchange rate policies would produce results soon.

I, to be honest, do not know, whether we're at the point now when we're going to see meaningful progress in the near term, he told the U.S. Senate Finance Committee. But Geithner said Washington was pushing for movement through the G20 and other global meetings.

Our objective is to encourage China to move as quickly as possible. Everything we're doing is trying to maximize he chance of that happening, he said. (Editing by James Dalgleish)
