The winner of this year’s Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show was announced Tuesday night, with the German shorthaired pointer coming out as triumphant and claiming the Best in Show award. This is the third time a German shorthaired pointer has won the prestigious dog show, which took place Monday and Tuesday in New York City at Madison Square Garden and Piers 92 and 94 on the Hudson River.

Last year’s Best In Show trophy was awarded to “Ch Tashtins Looking For Trouble,” also known as “Miss P,” a 15-inch beagle. In the past, particular breeds have fared better than others in the esteemed Westminster show. A wire fox terrier has reportedly won “Best in Show” 14 times, followed by a Scottish terrier with eight, trailed by the Airedale terrier, boxer, Doberman pinscher, smooth fox terrier, Pekingese, standard poodle, and Sealyham terrier, all claiming four “Best in Show” awards each, according to the Westminster Kennel Club.

The first night of judging on Monday resulted in winners in four groups, including a borzoi in the hound group, a shih tzu in the toy group, a bulldog in the nonsporting group and a German shepherd in the herding group. On Tuesday night, a German shorthaired pointer was declared best in the sporting group, a samoyed won first place in the working group and a Skye terrier won first in the terrier group.

The Westminster Dog Show, which was traditionally called Westminster Week, took its name from a New York City hotel, according to the show’s organizers, International Business Times previously reported. The first show took place in 1877.
