Canadian auto-parts firm Magna is still the German government's preferred bidder for automaker Opel, a government spokesman said on Wednesday.

German government officials are meeting officials from U.S. carmaker General Motors on Wednesday to discuss offers for Opel made by Magna, private equity firm RHJ International, and China's Beijing Automotive (BAIC).
