Gigi Hadid is leaving social media.

It's not permanent though, as the model said she's just taking some time off from her phone while on holiday break with her family. “I'm just taking the apps off my phone,” Hadid said, according to Entertainment Tonight. “It's empowering, not just for people in the spotlight, for everyone. At the end of the day, I'm choosing what I'm showing you. A lot of the world feels so entitled to other people's lives, which is so crazy.”

Hadid is understandably leaving social media in order to take a break from all the attention she has been getting as well. The model, who was recently named International Model of the Year by the British Fashion Council, said she also struggles with dealing with the nasty messages she receives on her social media from strangers. While she admits that she's sometimes saddened by the comments left on her social media, she's learned how to shrug them off.

“My stepdad always said, 'If you believe the good, you're going to believe the bad,'” Hadid said, referring to David Foster. “So I think [that you have to] pick the people who are important to you, if they said you did a good job that day, then you did a good job because they know you worked hard for it.”

Hadid, in a tweet she posted early this year, also addressed the issue of privacy and fan interaction. The model said that she tries to accommodate people who want to have photos taken with her, but she also asked that they keep her home off limits.

While she's inclined to take breaks from the limelight, Hadid also owns the attention given to her in the sense that she wants to use her fame to shed a light on certain topics.

“What's the point of social media if you're only going to respond to things that make you look great; if you're not willing to stand up for yourself, people take advantage of that,” Hadid said.
