E! News host Giuliana Rancic was slammed by both Zendaya Coleman and the Internet after she said the former Disney star’s hair reminded her of patchouli oil and marijuana during a segment of “Fashion Police.” Rancic quickly sent out an apology, but there’s more to the story.

Zendaya's dreadlocks looked "really heavy -- it overwhelms her, and it's just too boho," Rancic said, according to People magazine. "Zendaya is more high-fashion. The hair to me on her is making her a little more boho. Like I feel like she smells like patchouli oil. Or weed.”

In the clip that went viral, Rancic, 42, can be heard saying Zendaya looks like she smells of “patchouli oil and weed.” The "high-fashion" comment was edited out.

While Rancic is experiencing some professional turmoil, there's one person who is benefiting from the drama: Maria Menounos. The two reportedly have a feud, and Menounos has filled in for Rancic on "E! News" as a host. She’s thrilled that Rancic’s comments blew up in her face, because now she’s getting more airtime, a source told Radar Online. “She thinks it is hilarious that everything is working in her favor, and she didn’t have to play the ‘mean girl’ game at all,” the insider said.

Rumors floated that Kelly Osbourne was the one who actually made the weed comment, but the lavender-haired fashionista denied the accusation and even quit the show. A different rumor claimed that Joan Rivers' “Fashion Police” replacement, Kathy Griffin, actually was responsible for the weed comment, Radar Online wrote in a separate article, but Griffin hasn't remarked on the insinuation. Guilty conscience?
