Conservative news commentator Glenn Beck launched his own news website, The Blaze, on Tuesday, saying it was time to stop complaining about mainstream media and do something on his own.

The site will cover breaking news, original reporting, insightful opinions and engaging videos about the stories that matter most, Beck said in a message posted at Theblaze.com.

With a team of writers and reporters in place, The Blaze's coverage will include topics ranging from politics and government policy to culture, faith and family.

Beck currently hosts Fox News television show Glenn Beck on which he offers his own brand of libertarian thinking about current topics, and he has a syndicated radio show that is heard in more than 300 cities.

His books include The Real America: Messages from the Heart and Heartland, and he is popular among supporters of the Tea Party conservative movement in the United States.

The name of his website is intended to conjure images of a flame, which Beck said stands for burning truth. He expects the site to be a place that helps me make sense of the world I see.

Top stories Tuesday included articles on President Obama's health care reform and the proposed mosque near the site of the September 11 attacks in New York City.

One blog item boasted about Beck's rally in Washington D.C. over the weekend, which was attended by tens of thousands of people and, Beck said, was intended to restore America's honor.
